Community campaigner and ward rep Carole Baume

Councillor Matthew Clifton (Labour) and Carole Baume, Loughton & Shenley Ward Rep (Labour) have urged Milton Keynes Council to implement a 20mph speed limit along Engaine Drive in Shenley Church End and along Kensington Drive in Great Holm.

They believe that MK Council should take into account the needs of all road users when setting local speed limits.

Carole Baume says, “At 20mph everybody benefits, including the most vulnerable members of our community. Journey times are increased by only a few seconds and slower speeds reduce casualties.”

The two local campaigners in the Loughton and Shenley Ward have launched a petition to get community backing for their proposals. This will be presented to MK Council with the aim of getting new speed limits on two key streets in the ward. Councillor Matt Clifton says, “Child pedestrian accidents decrease by up to 70%. Slower speeds are elderly, disability and dementia friendly, reducing casualties by up to 20%. Walking and cycling become safer and more attractive modes of transport. Traffic flow improves and congestion is eased and journey times are increased by only a few seconds.”

See and sign their petition here:
