Council budget finally determined

The Council's budget was finally determined last week, but not until Labour won two significant concessions. The first was cheap bus fares for all under 19s and the second was the setting up of a restructuring fund of a £1million to help voluntary organisations, and to assist with devolution and new ways of working.

We also won a vote forcing the Cabinet to bring forward proposals to support deprived areas and a concession on the Council House Account to improve security and expand the window replacement programme. The two libraries earmarked for closure have also won at least a temporary reprieve. None the less there are plenty of deep and damaging cuts in the Councils budgets for this next year.
