On the 4 July, The Care Quality Commission (CQC) confirmed that Courteneys Lodge on South Furzton had yet again been rated Good. It scored the good rating in all 5 areas of inspection. It was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

Courteneys Lodge is a sheltered housing scheme that has been developed to support the needs of people with Dementia. It is one of three specialist dementia centres in Milton Keynes. It is a model of good care and support. Because it has a care role it is registered with the CQC.

The CQC said of the scheme “People were treated with dignity and respect. Consistent care and support was provided for people in line with their assessed needs and personal preferences.”

Cllr Nigel Long, Cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Housing said, “This is a really great service. It is about helping older residents with dementia to live independent lives in a supportive community based environment.”

He added, “The CQC is very clear the service has great staff who ensure high standards of care and support are provided.”

One resident, according to the CQC, said:  “The staff are like angels, they are all so lovely.”

Cllr Long added, “I am delighted with the inspection result. I am proud of the staff. It highlights the merit of an in-house service with valued staff. Our aim over the next year is to look at extending our dementia services to other areas of Milton Keynes. We want to look at creating dementia hubs in other parts of Milton Keynes.”

He concluded, “It is widely recognised, that we have a really good quality sheltered housing service. We have won awards for it.   Courteneys Lodge with its enhanced care and support role sets out a model for supporting the most vulnerable older residents in our community. It is a quality service we aim to provide to more residents.”
