Ensuring that the Olney ward is a great place to live, work and play

I'm your Labour representative for Olney Ward, which includes Lavendon, Emberton, Sherington, Clifton Reynes, Newton Blossomville, Weston Underwood, Ravenstone, Hardmead, North Crawley, Tyringham and Filgrave, Chicheley, Cold Brayfield, Astwood, and Moulsoe.

I have lived in Olney for over forty years and brought up my three children here. So obviously not a local then, but I have a keen love for the town, and I would like to see it continue to thrive.

I have been on the Town Council since 1978 and am its longest serving councillor. I actively sought a solution to the perilous state of Berrill’s Court road surface, which happily has been resolved. I am continuing to address the complex issue of parking in Oakdown Crescent.

I was mayor of the town for four years. During that time, I promoted ‘Britain in Bloom’ and helped to set up ‘Dicken’s of a Christmas’.

I am active in the town, both for serious and leisure activities. I am a former chair of Olney Middle School Governors and a former trustee of the Cowper and Newton Museum. I am also on the Pancake Committee, which led to my love of running and joining, as a founder member, the now rapidly expanding Olney Runners Club.

As an active committee member of the Olney Chamber of Trade, I helped organise the Christmas trees on the High Street (and continue to do so) and help to organise the Big Olney Food Festival (BOFF) through Olney Events.

I am campaigning for:

  • an increased subsidy for the bus service so that there is an evening service to Milton Keynes and back
  • support for Sainsbury’s application for a new store and petrol station in Olney
  • opening Splashpole path into Emberton Park to the public.

On the big issues I think:

  • we should stay in the European Union
  • we should oppose austerity measures
  • we should oppose cuts that affect the vulnerable in society.

I have been involved in all aspects of Olney life and I will continue to be a driving force within the community, and to address the issues that are important to you.
