MK Labour have pledged to crack down on fly-tipping with a promise to use mobile CCTV to catch those responsible, and clean up hot-spots quicker.

Community activist and Stony Stratford Labour candidate, Anne Cryer-Whitehead, has been campaigning for stronger measures on fly tipping because her estate, Fullers Slade, has several spots where people repeatedly illegally fly-tip rubbish ranging from beds to asbestos.

Now MK Labour are pledging to tackle the issue and bring those responsible to justice and have promised to:

• Fund new mobile CCTV to catch and prosecute those responsible.

• Introduce a fly-tipping hit squad to react quickly to clear fly-tipping hotspots.

• Retain and expand all community recycling facilities.

Anne Cryer-Whitehead said: “Fly-tipping blights estates and has a huge impact on local communities, not just on my estate of Fullers Slade, but all across MK. I am pleased MK Labour are leading the way and promising action on this issue.”

She continued: “I’ve been an activist on Fullers Slade for years, and one of the things that consistently comes up is how much fly-tipping annoys people who care about the community, so using more CCTV to catch those responsible and introducing a hit squad to clean up hot-spots quicker will go down well.”

Cllr Martin Gowans, Cabinet Member for Public Realm said: “Fly-tipping is unacceptable. There is no excuse, and we are pledging to crack down on those who illegally dump their rubbish and waste. Unlike most councils, our well-run Labour-led MK Council has managed to keep open every recycling centre and kept them free for household waste. We can pledge not only will that continue, but we’ll look at improving and expanding them in future too.”

He concluded: “Clean and tidy communities are thriving communities, and only MK Labour will stand up for people with pledges that have clear actions to tackle the issues that matter to people.”
