63 three bedroom or bigger family houses will be built in the first stream of 500 new Council houses across Milton Keynes.

The first stream of 91 new properties has been submitted to the Councils Planning Department as part of the Labour Administration’s plans to build a further 500 Council houses on top of the 200 Council houses that will have been built or acquired since Labour took control in 2014.

Council Leader, Cllr Pete Marland, said: “Our new city faces a big problem. A lack of secure, genuinely affordable housing. We are now starting Stream One of 500 new Council houses. We need these homes because the new city had 755 families in temporary accommodation last Friday (18.04.19). We need to build the new city out of the homelessness crisis it faces. That is what a well run Labour Council will do.”

Of the first 91 new homes gong for planning approval 63 are large family homes:

  • 43 three bedroom homes
  • 18 four bedroom homes
  • 2 five bedroom homes.

Cabinet member for Housing and Regeneration, Cllr Nigel Long, added: “We are starting the building of new homes across the city including 21 more homes in Bletchley and 57 in the Central area of Milton Keynes. We are building bigger homes because we have many large families in Temporary Accommodation and we need to meet their needs.”

Cllr Marland concluded: “I am proud that we are starting the process of building 500 new Council houses. We want to create a new city where all households have secure homes free from the threat of homelessness. It is one of the many reasons why a well-run Labour Council is good for Milton Keynes.”
