The Great Holm Obelisk, a 30ft brick obelisk situated at the highest point of Great Holm, is going to receive much needed maintenance work thanks to £15,000 in funding secured for the project by Labour Councillor for Loughton & Shenley Ward, Zoe Nolan.

The obelisk was one of the first things to be built in Great Holm and stands proudly at the highest point in the estate, offering views over much of Milton Keynes. Easily recognisable from a distance, it has become a prominent symbol of the area and a community meeting point for local residents.

Cllr Zoe Nolan said: “The obelisk was built in the early 1980’s and is need of maintenance and updates to the brickwork. I’m delighted to see the Council include funding for this important local project in its budget.”

She continued: “Being a new city it’s important we maintain our local landmarks as we grow and they become part of our community’s local history and identity. This funding will ensure the obelisk can continue to stand tall and be enjoyed.”
