Health Select Committee to review Hospital Finance

Cllr Nigel Long at MKGHMilton Keynes Council’s Health Select Committee will take a close look at the financial position of Milton Keynes Hospital and the pressures it is under.

The next meeting of the all party Health Select Committee on Tuesday 22 November will review the financial challenges the hospital is facing and will through the taking of evidence from witnesses investigate how well the hospital is managing its resources and if Government cuts are having an impact.

Cllr Nigel Long, chair of the Health Select Committee, said, “All four Groups on the Health committee have agreed to look closely at the hospitals financial position. We know that it is predicting a big deficit and that it is under pressure from Government cuts. We want to explore how well the hospital is coping.”

The committee has invited the hospitals finance director and chief executive to answer questions. It was also agreed that the Hospital Governors have been asked by the committee, and have agreed, to give evidence outlining the actions they are taking to ensure the hospital’s financial position is being addressed.

Cllr Nigel Long said, “We value our hospital and the services provided by its dedicated staff. We need to make sure that public money is well spent and that Government cuts are not undermining the hospital.”
