There are 20,182 voters aged 18-29 in Milton Keynes North from Wolverton, through Stantonbury, to Broughton, Oldbrook and through Newport Pagnell to and Olney. As new voters their numbers are greater than the sitting Conservative MPs majority of 9,753.

The national polling evidence suggests that most people in this age group will vote for Charlynne Pullen, if they turn out and vote. Here is the challenge.

Charlynne Pullen, Labour candidate for MK North said, “I remember casting my first vote just before my final exams in 2005. It is more important than ever to vote. Young people have the potential to help win MK North for Labour. Labour’s plan for young people would ensure young people can study for free, whether at Milton Keynes College or at the Open University. We would build affordable housing, get rid of exploitative zero hours contracts and bring in a £10 an hour minimum wage”

In this election, Labour will stand up for young people by:

  • Reinstating the Education Maintenance Allowance, which will help hundreds of thousands of young people access education and training so that they can get on and achieve their aspirations.
  • Re-introducing higher education maintenance grant. Bringing back the grant is an investment in our young people, helping them access a university education, and providing us with the highly educated and highly skilled workforce that we need.
  • Legislating for three year tenancies and end practices such as revenge evictions.
  • Investing in new affordable homes to rent and buy, building over a million new homes in five years.
  • Introducing a Real Living Wage of £10 an hour by 2020 for all workers over 18, unlike the Tories’ so-called living wage, which young workers don’t receive.
  • Banning Zero-Hours Contracts which 300,000 young workers are employed on.
  • Reversing Tory cuts to housing support for 18-21 year olds which risk pushing young people into homelessness.

Charlynne Pullen concluded, “I want to see every young person vote on Thursday 8 June. If young people in Milton Keynes North come out and vote Labour, we will defeat the Conservatives. Please vote on Thursday.”
