Newton Leys has a new ASDA and a new road traffic problem as ‘turning right’ is not allowed when residents leave the store.

It is great news about the supermarket opening on Newton Leys, however residents of Newton Leys have identified a local problem.

It is not possible to shop at the new ASDA and then turn right back into the new estate. This is because at the traffic lights there is a “no right turn” restriction

This is almost certainly down to the junction being designed before the land was reallocated for shops. The aim was to stop lorries from the nearby landfill site getting confused!

Local councillor Mohammed Khan is calling upon Milton Keynes Council to adopt the road and at the same time remove the ‘No Right Turn.’

Cllr Khan said, “I am normally opposed to people turning right, but we need to make an exception here. It is daft and the Council needs to remove this restriction when it adopts the new road.”

He added, “History tells us that failure to sort the problem out at an early stage will lead to a long term problem that takes years to sort out.  I am asking the Council to remove the restriction as a matter of priority. I say please sort it out now. Don’t let it become a long term problem.”
