On Saturday 20 January 2018 two parachutists jumped from the roof of the 18 floor Mellish Court flats, West Bletchley. The same thing happened in 2017 when two people also parachuted from the roof.

Local Councillor Mick Legg has been contacted by residents of Mellish Court who are concerned that there is poor security allowing people to access the roof. Residents are concerned that the lack of security may allow a vulnerable resident to access the roof and jump to their death.

Cllr Legg said, “Two parachutists have been able to access the roof. It is clearly not secure and I am concerned that there is a lack of security because the roof is accessed on a regular basis to adjust communications equipment. The Council clearly needs to enhance security with proper locks, CCTV and an alarm system.”   

Local councillors Mick Legg and Nigel Long have been working with the residents of Mellish Court to improve services including fire safety, repairs, security and the concierge. The need for enhanced CCTV has been discussed.   

Cllr Mick Legg concluded, “I am asking the Council to improve the security on to the roof so that access is no longer possible for unauthorised people. I would see such improvements as part of the wider plans to improve fire safety, cleaning, concierge, repairs and security in  the block of flats. Stopping access to the roof is an important part of ensuring security and preventing unauthorised access to the roof. I believe CCTV will be important to maintaining the security of the roof. If security is not improved I can see a dreadful accident happening.”
