Martin Petchey: Stantonbury

Giving the residents of Stantonbury a stronger voice

I’m your Labour councillor for the Stantonbury ward, which includes the areas of Oakridge Park, Great Linford, Neath Hill, Bancroft, Bradville and Stantonbury. I want to help build a better and fairer Milton Keynes, and be an advocate for the people of the ward, addressing the issues that are most important to you.

I am an experienced community campaigner and councillor, and have already had two spells as a councillor for areas in the north of the New City. I have two main priorities for the Stantonbury ward. In the first instance, Bradville residents are concerned about regeneration proposals. If elected, I will fight for community approval of any plans prior to implementation. My second priority is the issue of parking across the ward, particularly around schools. I aim to explore sustainable solutions to ease the pressures being experienced by residents.

I’ve been a member of a number of committees on Milton Keynes Council, including the Environment and Transport Select Committee, the Appeals Commission, the Development Control Committee and the Development Control Panel. I’m an indefatigable champion for the people in my area. I’ve also served as a parish councillor, helped run a community centre and been a school governor (including for Stantonbury Campus).

My interests include the future development of Milton Keynes, the heritage of the New City, and improving public transport.

Away from politics, I work as an archaeologist and relax ringing bells in Milton Keynes’s churches.
