Poor parking outside of Abbeys Primary School on Melrose Avenue in West Bletchley has been a running sore.
Milton Keynes Council has carried out a ‘blitz’ on poor parking around Abbeys School following pressure from Cllr Mick Legg and community campaigner Lauren Townsend.
Poor and inconsiderate parking includes blocking junctions and driveways. Some of the parking is dangerous blocking clear road views. It has put the lives of children and parents walking to school at risk.
The school has tried to tackle the problem itself but with all initiatives having so far proved unsuccessful at solving the problem, tougher action was needed.
Cllr Legg and Lauren Townsend acted following liaison with local residents on Melrose Avenue, Dorchester Avenue, and the Glastonbury and Barburies Closes. The residents have faced long standing problems of poor, dangerous and thoughtless parking.
Community campaigner Lauren Townsend said: “Many drivers were moved along and two Penalty Charge Notices (PCN)’s were issued. These notices are issued by the Council if you park incorrectly or for too long on public land. I welcome this action by the Council and I am pleased that they have listened to local residents and their councillors.”
Cllr Mick Legg added:“Local councillors have been pushing for some time to tackle poor parking locally. This action by the Council is a very welcome first step in tackling a range of poor parking problems in West Bletchley.”
Lauren Townsend concluded:“I have been pleased that following discussions with local residents, Milton Keynes Council has acted. I am also working with local residents and councillors Mick Legg and Nigel Long to get a parking blitz around the Bushy Close area.”
