I'm the Labour Party's representative for Newport Pagnell South and stood as candidate for this MK Council seat in previous elections. This ward includes Blakelands, Giffard Park and parts of Great Linford in addition to the south side of Newport Pagnell itself. I am a Newport Pagnell Town Councillor for this ward. I am also Chair of Milton Keynes Labour Party.
I moved to Milton Keynes from London in 1976. I lived in several parts of the “New City” area before settling in Newport Pagnell in 2005. This is where I grew up, went to school, got married and raised my children and stepchildren. I've experienced Milton Keynes as a school pupil, a parent, a hospital patient, a neighbour, a bus passenger, an employee, a cyclist, a commuter, a victim of crime and in many other ways.
I served on Milton Keynes Council from 1998-2002, where I was part of the first ever Cabinet on that authority. I've also been a neighbourhood councillor, a school governor, chair of a Parish Council, and a trade union official in Milton Keynes.
Professionally, I spent 16 years working for Abbey National, in their Milton Keynes head office, in roles including ICT, project management and employee relations. Since 2005 I have worked in the not-for-profit sector. I was Deputy General Secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), one of Britain's largest trade unions, and was Chief Operating Officer of the Business Disability Forum.
