Rachel Pallett: Shenley Brook End

Fighting for a fairer Milton Keynes

I’m your Labour representative for Shenley Brook End, which includes the areas of Emerson Valley, Furzton, Shenley Brook End and Shenley Lodge. I want to offer an alternative voice to the people of Shenley Brook End – a new way of thinking, and a dedication to get things done.

I live in Emerson Valley and have previously served as a councillor in Milton Keynes, playing an active role in improving the lives of the community I represented. By day I work in Marketing for a local learning disabilities care provider.

I’ve been a member of the Labour Party since 2012 and it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster since then. When I was elected in Bradwell Ward in 2014, I gave residents a voice, and managed to make some key improvements in the area on issues that matter most to people.

I’ve found that the smallest things, such as a pothole or an overgrown hedge can have a big impact, and can change the way people feel about their environment. By fighting for these changes, along with our ambitious campaign for Milton Keynes as a whole, Labour makes a real difference in Milton Keynes.

I fought for an intensive landscaping project in Heelands in 2014, and the results have been incredible. With the overgrown and potentially dangerous hedges gone, residents are now able to enjoy the open spaces. Last year I also coordinated a change to the bus route in Heelands, which was causing some danger to local residents.

The key issue for me is making sure that the people in this ward have a voice. What I enjoyed most about being a councillor was supporting residents, listening to their concerns and acting on them. There’s nothing better than getting the result people are looking for and playing a part in the local community.

Everyone deserves the right to a safe home, a job and a happy and healthy environment. I’m committed, passionate and I have so much to give in serving my community.
