Deirdre Bethune
Candidate for Olney Ward

I’m delighted to have been selected to represent Labour in the Olney Ward. I have been a local resident since 1975 and a Town Councillor for the last 40 years, including a stint as Mayor. Before retirement I was employed by the Open University. I care deeply about Olney and the surrounding villages, and would love to see them have a Labour representative on the Council.
I value the time I have spent as an Olney Town Councillor, and the ability to help make a difference. MK Council are seeing astonishing budget cuts which makes it hard to maintain crucial front line services, adult social care, child protection and helping the homeless whilst also still giving us the cleaning and landscaping services we’ve all come to expect. In addition our communities are having to work harder than ever to remain connected. My top priorities for Olney Ward are:
- – Supporting depriming the A509 so we can reduce HGV traffic through the town.
- – Supporting the reopening of the Splashpole path to Emberton and a redway extension to Lavendon, promoting greater village inclusion and for safer walking and cycling.
- – Supporting the new Sainsbury’s shop and other High Street initiatives, to increase jobs and opportunities for local residents.
If elected I will continue to work tirelessly for all the local residents in the Olney Ward. If you want to reach me at anytime please email deirdre@mklabour.org.uk.
