Councillor Zoe Nolan welcomed clarification from Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire Authority that information sent to Milton Keynes ward councillors at the end of last year stating that Great Holm fire station was to “be redeveloped” was inaccurate.

Councillor Nolan had expressed concern that the information, as provided, undermined faith in the current consultation to close Great Holm Fire Station, which she opposes.

Cllr Nolan and Milton Keynes Labour Party are satisfied with assurances that the content provided in the report was due to a breakdown in communications between agents acting on behalf of both the fire authority and Telefonica.

Cllr Nolan is happy to accept that neither Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire Authority nor their agent had intended to give the impression that the decision to close Great Holm Fire Station had therefore been made.

Councillor Nolan said;

“I accept that the information provided to councillors on this planning issue last year was inaccurate and misleading. I am happy to accept the Fire Authority, and companies working for it, did not intend to give the impression that the decision to close Great Holm fire station had already been made.

I am content they have clarified their position this week.”

She concluded:

“I am glad we can now focus again on opposing the proposal to close Great Holm Fire station. We continue to strongly object to this closure on the grounds of safety, security and capacity. Thousands of residents across the city agree with us and I can only hope the fire authority will listen. If they don’t, or have other plans, then the additional questions as to what they intend for the site at Great Holm would be need to be answered too. I will always stand up and ask difficult questions on behalf of my residents and the people of Milton Keynes.”

The decision about the future of Great Holm fire station is due to be taken at a meeting of the Fire Authority on Wednesday 10th February 2016 at 11 am in the Civic offices in Milton Keynes.
