The Cemetery at Selbourne Avenue in Bletchley is heavily water logged again following the high levels of rain. This is causing distress to the relatives of people buried there.

Milton Keynes Council promised to invest circa £50,000 in drainage of the site as the graves were water logged. Twelve months on and despite numerous broken promises by the council to invest in suitable drainage for the site there has been no action and relatives have again approached local councillor Mick Legg for help.

Cllr Mick Legg said, “It is nothing short of a disgrace. It is so disrespectful not to address the state of the cemetery. Having allocated funds to put drainage in, to not do the work is very bad.”

 Cllr Legg has written to the responsible cabinet member of Milton Keynes Council to secure action and he wants an apology to the residents affected for the delay. He concluded, “The cemetery was established in an area of clay soil and it was always going to need proper drainage. The Council got it wrong from Day One. Having promised to sort out the mistake, to delay doing the work is bringing distress to relatives.  The Council should apologise and ensure the work starts as soon as possible.”
