Milton Keynes Council’s Cabinet will on Tuesday 2 October agree the 3 options for the regeneration of Serpentine Court on the Lakes estate. The option favoured by residents could cost up to £75 million.

Three options for the future of Serpentine Court will be voted on:

• OPTION 1: No regeneration. Cost £5.8 million over next 30 years.
• OPTION 2: Partial regeneration. Cost £73.2 million.
• OPTION 3. Full demotion. Cost £75.3 million.

The ballot will be held on Friday 16^th and Saturday 17^th November.

Cllr Nigel Long said, “We will at this week’s Cabinet agree the ballot on Serpentine Court. The favoured option could cost up to 75 million. This option will deliver full demolition and the replacement of the Serpentine Court with 584 new properties of which 248 or 42%  will be Council houses.”

The proposals will see all existing council houses replaced and around 60 additional ones built. It will also see new houses built for sale and for shared ownership.

Council Leader Cllr  Pete Marland added, “I am pleased we have now reached the ballot stage in the regeneration of Serpentine Court. As a Labour led Council we are committed to regeneration of the original areas of Milton Keynes so that all residents have high quality homes of their choice.”

Once the ballot result is know the Council will then undertake a range of activities to make the regeneration happen. These include securing planning permission and agreeing the funding model. The work will take place in phases.

Cllr Nigel Long concluded, “Once the residents have made their choice in the Ballot we will then move to the implementation of the decision and over the next 3 years we will deliver the regeneration that the people have chosen. We will also continue to engage with residents and the wider community as we start to rebuild Serpentine Court.”
