A survey of the residents of Westminster Drive and surrounding closes showed the following results:

Now local community campaigner Lauren Townsend has backed calls for Milton Keynes to consult on introducing a 20 mph speed limit or other forms of traffic calming in Westminster Drive and to look at options for improved parking. She wants Milton Keynes Council to test out its’ new approach to introducing 20 mph speed limits in the Westminster Drive area .
Milton Keynes Council will shortly agree on a new policy on introducing 20 mph speed limits on estates where there is resident support for such measures.
Council Cabinet member Cllr Martin Gowans will consider this. He says,
“The Council is adopting a easier approach for residents to achieve 20 mph road speeds where these will stop speeding traffic and improve community safety. They will be introduced only where there is strong community support for the measure.”
Lauren Townsend, a local community campaigner has teamed up with local councillors Mick Legg and Nigel Long to call for Milton Keynes Council to formally consult the residents on a 20 mph speed restriction scheme once the new Council policy goes live on the 20th November..
Lauren Townsend said, “We had a very good response to our survey. I have also been talking with residents of Westminster Drive and there is strong support for this measure to stop speeding cars. We now need Milton Keynes Council to do the formal consultation. Then hopefully we can move to safer roads and reduce speeding cars. It is also clear we have to improve the parking.”
Cllr Nigel Long concluded, “There have been problems of speeding cars for some time. It is a matter of local concern. The survey showed 95% support for improved parking and 90% for traffic calming. A 20 mph speed limit could stop the speeding cars and has 88% local backing.”
