The Selbourne Avenue Cemetery in West Bletchley has long had problems with flooding and this has caused distress to local residents whose loved ones are buried there.

The flooding has also put expansion of the cemetery on hold. Now local councillor Elaine Wales has secured in the 2019/20 budget of Milton Keynes Council £20,000 to further improve drainage at the cemetery.

Cllr Wales said, “I am delighted to have secured £20,000 towards further improving the drainage at the Selbourne Avenue cemetery. I have heard from a lot of local residents of their heart break that the graves have been flooded. This extra money will ensure flooding is tackled and will not happen again.”

The extra money also allows the cemetery to be expanded with the provision of additional graves to meet local needs. The new graves will be possible because of the extra drainage put in.

Cllr Elaine Wales concluded, “I have long pushed for expanding the Selbourne Avenue cemetery, but the flooding has limited the opportunity to develop the cemetery further. Securing this extra money will allow the needs of local families to be met and for their loved ones to be buried locally. I am pleased to have secured this money.”
