Fenny Stratford cemetery on Manor Road is not being properly cleaned or maintained. The cemetery is often covered in litter and clearly action is needed to improve it.

Fenny Stratford Councillor Emily Darlington said: “I have been contacted by a
number of local residents whose loved ones are buried in the Fenny Stratford
cemetery. Out of respect to them, Milton Keynes Council should ensure the
cemetery is well maintained and kept neat and tidy.”

Emily has taken the matter up with Milton Keynes Council and is looking at 3 options:

1. Milton Keynes Council ensures the cemetery is properly maintained and
cleaned on a daily basis.
2. That the Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council take over the
responsibility for cleaning and maintaining the cemetery with funding from
Milton Keynes Council. They would appoint a caretaker for the cemetery.
3. That the cemetery be upgraded using planning gain monies from nearby
developments in Fenny Stratford.

Cllr Darlington added: “I have visited the cemetery and believe that the level of
cleaning and maintenance needs to improve. It is so important that we
remember and respect people buried in the cemetery and that we ensure
visiting the cemetery by loved ones is not undermined by the cemetery being
unclean or badly maintained.”

Cllr Darlington concluded: “I am committed to working with residents, the parish
council and Milton Keynes Council to achieve the best viable, long term
improvement of the cemetery.”
