Queensway in Bletchley is in line for a deep clean after Labour-led MK Council announced it has allocated £35,000 to tidy up the town centre.

High streets are under pressure nationally, and while CMK is bucking the downward trend, the borough still has a number of traditional high streets that need investment and regeneration.

Now, hot on the heels of news that the long-awaited re-development of the Agora in Wolverton has moved a step closer, the council has revealed that it will spend £35,000 on cleaning and tidying Queensway in Bletchley. MK Council will work with the local town council on how best to use the money.

The funding is part of MK Council’s on-going “war on litter”, and was part of an award from the MHCLG Cleaner High Street fund.

Cllr Peter Marland, Leader of MK Council said: “Bletchley has a great history and an amazing future. Labour-led MK Council is investing in the town. Queensway is so important to the local community and we want it to thrive. Allocating this funding will ensure we can make it cleaner and more appealing to visitors.”

Ed Hume, Bletchley Town Councillor and community activist said: “I’m pleased the council has allocated this money to cleaning up the town centre. I’ll be working to ensure they money is spent making Queensway a really appealing place to come, spend time and shop, but I want to see even bigger, bolder plans for investment, like a new bus station.”

Cllr Peter Marland concluded: “Labour-led MK Council wants to build stronger communities. This funding will help Bletchley, but it is part of a wider clamp down on litter and wider investment in our traditional town centres.”
