Eaton Avenue – along with the Lennox and Leon Roads in Central Bletchley – all share a common problem, namely that of speeding traffic.

These residential roads are used as short cuts between Manor Road and Queensway, Central Bletchley. At times these three inter-linked roads are like a racing track according to local councillor Emily Darlington.

Cllr Emily Darlington said: “With my colleagues Cllrs Khan and Gowans we have been listening to residents about the growing problems of speeding traffic. These roads are being used as a cut through and causing safety issues for residents and children going to Leon Rec or school. They are good candidates for the new 20 mph speed limits that Milton Keynes Council can now introduce, if residents support them.”

Milton Keynes Council is introducing 20 mph speed limits on the roads in new estates because of the safer roads priority of the Council but it has also agreed that it will introduce them in older areas where a clear majority of residents support it.

Cllr Darlington added: “I have been talking with the residents of Eaton Avenue, Lennox and Leon roads and they are telling me that the rat run must end. I will therefore be seeking action from Milton Keynes Council to formally consult with residents on introducing a 20 mph speed limit on these roads.”

There may also be a case for road narrows as an extra traffic calming measure, especially in Eaton Avenue, a long road.

Cllr Darlington concluded: “I would like to thank the many residents I have met to talk this problem through. I believe the 20pmh speed limit may stop most speeding cars, but we may also have to consider some road narrows as well as improved signage.”
