Leadenhall is home to three of our city’s educational organisations: MK College, MK Academy and St Paul’s Catholic School. Several thousand students attend these establishments every day and this causes massive traffic problems for residents on Leadenhall, particularly on Rainbow Drive, Phoenix Drive, Fulwoods Drive, Moorgate and Palace Square.

All of the roads in and out of the estate become very congested during school-run time. Parents have even been seen dropping their children on the busy roundabout at the entrance to the Woughton Campus, which is extremely dangerous. Students and parents park their cars everywhere on the estate and this creates problems for the local residents.

Shammi Akter, a councillor for the Woughton and Fishermead ward, said: “I have spoken to the principals of all three organisations and I’m really happy to say that they are co-operating with me. After having a conversation with MK Academy, they have now instructed all of their students to use the main entrance off of Saxon Street. This  has relieved the traffic jam on Rainbow Drive. I have spoken to the residents of Fulwoods drive and they have informed me that they are very happy, because for several years they have suffered due to the school-rush traffic problem, yet no action was being taken. Now there should be no more traffic jams on Rainbow drive.”

Cllr Shammi Akter is also working with Milton Keynes Council, Woughton Community Council, Thames Valley Police, MK College, MK Academy, St. Paul’s Catholic School and Leadenhall Residents Association to solve the entire estates traffic issues and is hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon.

Cllr Shammi Akter concluded: “Helping to resolve real issues for residents, such as congestion and poor parking around the schools and college, is very important to me and I am pleased that on this occasion I have been able to bring  people together to work on a solution.”
