After years of complaining, an area of parking bays on Melrose Avenue has finally been tarmacked.

Residents on Melrose Avenue, by Abbeys School, had looked on in despair as the road was resurfaced twice in one year but the parking bays were left untouched, leaving them with lots of pot holes and an uneven surface.

Cllr Nigel Long said: “The local team of Labour councillors has been pushing for the parking bays to be done up. It makes the Council look silly when the road is done and the parking area left untouched. I am pleased that, after a lot of pressure, the parking bays have finally been done and are looking really good.”   

MKC claim the problem was that the bays are technically ‘unadopted’ land but the local Labour team believe this is a daft and unhelpful distinction that simply makes the Council look inefficient.

Cllr Lauren Townsend added: “I could not understand why we were successful in getting the road tarmacked, twice, but the well-used parking bays right next to it were left untouched. This change of heart from MKC is welcome and the whole road looks so much better now.”

Cllr Mick Legg concluded: “I grew up opposite these parking bays and it felt daft that they were left untouched for so many years. We have put a lot of effort into getting this area properly resurfaced and into getting the roundabout improved after subsidence. Next we will be aiming to get the pavements across all of West Bletchley upgraded.”
