A fire destroyed a block of 22 empty garages at the top of Walnut Drive, on the Trees estate in Fenny Stratford, last weekend.

The fire has opened up an opportunity for the Council, who owns the site, to build much needed bungalows for older and disabled people who live on the Trees estate.

Local Councillor, Mohammmed Khan, said:“I have long sought action to demolish these empty garages.  The fire offers an incentive to take action and demolish the burnt out garages and build some bungalows on the site. It is a good site close to local shops.”

Cllr Mohammed Khan visited the fire damaged garages and believes the land would be the perfect location for some much needed council bungalows.

Fellow Bletchley East Councillor, Emily Darlington, added: “There is a real need for more council bungalows, so that older residents and disabled residents can move to more suitable properties as they get older. This site should now be developed for new bungalows. Not only would it meet the needs of older residents it would free up larger properties for families.”
