Bletchley railway station is now so busy – and parking charges so high – that commuters are parking their cars on nearby Whalley Drive. This is causing problems for residents having to deal with cars parked outside their properties all day and has lead to increasing traffic problems on the road.

Residents have contacted their local Labour councillor, Elaine Wales, and highlighted their growing concerns over parking and congestion along Whalley Drive.

Cllr Elaine Wales said: “I  share residents concerns, and know the conditions on the road here are also made worse by people parking in Whalley Drive to visit the NHS hospital in the road. It’s a double whammy – cars from the hospital, and now, increasing numbers of cars from daily commuters into London.”

Cllr Wales is calling for 3 actions from MK Council:

  1. To do a review of parking problems associated with the railway station and the Whalley Drive hospital.
  2. To consider double yellow lines along Whalley Drive, but especially at the Sherwood Drive End of Whalley Drive.
  3. Consider how to enhance parking for station users in Sherwood Drive, by perhaps putting parking bays in.

Cllr Wales concluded: “The parking at the Bletchley railway station is too limited and too expensive and this is causing parking problems on Whalley Drive, a 10-minute walk from the station. I hope MK Council can develop a solution to this growing problem. It’s simply not fair to residents living on the road and I will continue to work closer with them, and the council, to help find the best solution.”
