The ‘white houses’ area of Stantonbury is one of the first to benefit from housing investment under Milton Keynes Council’s town-wide £165 million Council Housing Improvement Programme.

This area was chosen for investment after Stantonbury councillors Hannah Minns and Martin Petchey highlighted problems including asbestos and the need to upgrade roofs.

Cllr Minns said: “We became aware that there were problems with roofs in the Stantonbury ‘white houses’ roads of Jennings, Fowler, Goring, Lincoln. On investigation the problem was a combination of age of the properties and the existence of asbestos. So we made the case for this area to be an early beneficiary of the £165 million Council Housing Improvement Programme that was approved by the Labour-led Council in February 2019.”

Cllr Petchey said: “We are very pleased that work has started on removing the asbestos and replacing the existing roofs. This is what a well run Labour Council does after years of Tory under-investment. I am pleased that work has started here. There are lots of other areas in the Stantonbury area that also need improving. We look forward to areas like Bradville, Neath Hill and Great Linford being improved.”

Cabinet member for Housing and Regeneration Cllr Nigel Long concluded: “I would like to thank Hannah and Martin for highlighting why this area should be a top priority. I am also pleased because it shows that Labour’s fully costed investment programme will improve council housing across Milton Keynes.”
