Labour-led Milton Keynes Council has joined forces with Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group in a bid to win extra funding to help under pressure GP services.  

The CCG asked Cllr Nigel Long, Cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing and chair of Milton Keynes Health and Wellbeing board, to endorse the proposal  from the CCG.

Cllr Long told the Milton Keynes Cabinet meeting on the 12 January that he was delighted to support the Challenge Fund bid.

He said, “The government has really squeezed the NHS in recent years putting extra pressure on GP provision in many parts of Milton Keynes.  Improving GP access is a priority for Labour and this bid provides the opportunity to secure extra funding for the borough.  Despite the national pressure on the NHS, we are fighting for the resources we need in Milton Keynes.”

He continued, “This latest bid should be seen alongside the £14 million of funding we have secured with the CCG through the Better Care Fund (BCF) to transform health and care services in order to enhance community and intermediate care services.” 

“Our aim, as a Council, is to develop the closet policy relationship with the CCG and health services. These bids are about ensuring better co-ordination for residents between GPs, health and social care services. It is a big challenge but will help bring services closers to the community level where they can help more patients.”
