Just one week in to the new job as the MK Roads boss Cllr Martin Gowans (Cabinet member for roads) has already made a difference.

Cllr Gowans on behalf of the new Labour led Council has announced an extra £100,000 to refresh 800 areas of white lines across the City. This money, despite Tory Government cuts, has been found on top of the £6.3 million already being invested in roads.

Cllr Martin Gowans said, “I am delighted, as a driver, that over 800 locations will be upgraded over the coming year. Clearly marked lines mean safer roads. I hate coming to junctions or Zebra crossings and the lines are not clear.“

Cllr Gowans added, “I often go to see my Mother in West Bletchley and the lines on Shenley road at the Zebra crossing by the Church had faded. These were renewed in May and it has made the road safer in my view. I want to see 800 areas improved and made safe.“

Martin Gowans  believes so much more could be completed if not for central Government controls on investment in roads.

Cllr Gowans concluded, “I am committed in my new role as Cabinet member for roads and road safety to improve roads and street lighting. The improved markings is a first step to improvements I intend to deliver.”
