The Executive Committee of Milton Keynes Labour Party have issued a statement on the national leadership situation:

Statement from Milton Keynes Labour Party

Our 2016-17 Executive Committee met for the first time on Thursday 30 June following their election at the Annual General Meeting two weeks ago.

We have observed the developments in the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) over recent days, however as we have no Labour Members of Parliament for Milton Keynes there is no member from Milton Keynes on that body and we do not get reports from the Parliamentary Labour Party on their actions.

While the national leadership of the Labour Party is of course of importance to us, our principal responsibility is to the people of Milton Keynes and we continue to support our hardworking Councillors on Milton Keynes Council and Parishes across the city who are delivering improvements to our city every day.  Many of our party members are directly active in community groups and campaigning for issues that matter to MK and are also making a difference to people’s lives. We stand united in our dedication to work together as a local party to continue to make this difference.

We are a democratic member-led party and our members have yet to formally discuss issues relating to the national leadership.  Our members will have this opportunity at our monthly All Members Meeting in July. In the meantime, and until that discussion occurs, Milton Keynes Labour Party has not made any comments on either Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership or the actions of the Parliamentary Labour Party. It should be noted that any members that express any view on these events do so in a personal capacity and not on behalf of our party.

Paul Day

Chair, Milton Keynes Labour Party
