Milton Keynes Council’s Labour cabinet has listened to tenants’ priorities and agreed to invest £4.222 million improving Council Housing across MK.
Labour led Milton Keynes Council agreed £4,222,374 pounds of investment in improving its’ 11,000 council houses and sheltered housing schemes at its Cabinet meeting on the 11 July.
The main improvements receiving approval to spend include:
Improved heating for houses £1,282,000
Bellfounder court sheltered housing, Bradwell, heating £22,000
Bellfounder House, Bradwell ceiling upgrade. £107,000
Shelton Court, Woburn Sands, sheltered housing heating £76,000
Lincoln Court, Hanslope, sheltered housing, heating £201,000
MC2 Balconies in West Bletchley £810,000
Everglades, Eaglestone, Fire safety £67,000
Kilkenny house, Westcroft, fire safety £167,000
Mellish Court, West Bletchley Fire safety £212,000
Carpenter Court, Neath Hill, Fire safety £100,000
Dexter House sheltered housing roof £55,000
Communal area improvements £1,560,000
Cabinet lead for Housing Cllr Nigel Long (pictured) said, “We have agreed to invest £4.2 million on our housing stock. The focus includes improving heating in both general housing and sheltered housing schemes. We are also investing in fire safety at Kilkenny House and the 13 story Mellish Court. This investment is further evidence of a well run Housing service.”

He added, “I am particularly delighted that the Dexter House sheltered housing scheme on Oldbrook will see £55,000 spent on the roof. I visited the scheme on the 14 January and residents told me about the roof. We value sheltered housing and listen to the residents.“

Cllr Long concluded, “We also value sheltered housing in the small towns outside of the new city area. I was delighted to visit Shelton Court, in Woburn Sands, on 27 January and to agree a £76,000 improvement to the heating system at that lovely scheme is really pleasing. We seek to serve all areas. We will continue to invest in improving standards.“
