On Tuesday 7 February Milton Keynes Council agreed a £440,000 funding package to start the process of modernising Day Services for older people; with a particular focus on supporting people with dementia.

Cllr Nigel Long, Cabinet member for Adult Social Care said, “I am committed to modernising Day Care services in Milton Keynes. Existing ‘tired’ services at Manor Road and Cripps Lodge will be replaced by a new Day Care service that will provide the best possible services and support for vulnerable adults with complex needs such as dementia. ”

The Council will be investing in the modernisation of an existing Council owned property in Simpson. (Currently the Music centre that is being relocated to West Bletchley) This new Day Care will also be only two minutes’ walk from the Five Acres Care home, that was recently purchased by the Council. This care home will focus on the needs of people with dementia.

Cllr Long added, “We will have two excellent services in one location allowing a sharing of services and the opportunity for sharing staff.”

Investing in Care and Support for people with Dementia.

The Council has a growing reputation for developing its dementia care and support services. There are high quality dementia services already at Courtneys Lodge on Furzton, Flowers House at Bletchley Park  and Kilkenny House,  Westcroft. These are backed up by first class specialist home care services.     

Cllr Long concluded, “In agreeing to develop a new Day Centre at Simpson we are continuing to develop further our support for people with dementia. There is growing demand as the MK population ages. We aim to have comprehensive, high quality and integrated services in place to meet this challenge. It is what a well-run Labour Council does.”
