” I am writing to share some worrying news about our local NHS with you. I’d also like to ask for your help in fighting to ensure that the NHS in Milton Keynes has the resources it needs to meet the demands of an increasing population.

Our local NHS is being cut by the Tory Government, and our services are in crisis.

Investigations by national newspapers into local Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) have identified that A&E and Maternity services at Milton Keynes Hospital are at risk of being closed or downgraded.

As a recent user of maternity services, I know how important they are to the people of Milton Keynes. Every day people rely on our A&E when they most need it. Yet waiting times are getting longer and, as our population grows, our hardworking staff within the NHS are under greater pressure than ever.

Services at Bedford Hospital are also at risk. Some people say that Milton Keynes Hospital won’t be affected, if Bedford Hospital loses its A&E or Maternity service and we keep ours. This simply isn’t true. Closing or reducing services in Bedford will simply put more pressure on MK Hospital in the future.

Your Labour Councillors are standing up to ensure our NHS services in MK are funded to meet our growing population and increasing demand.

Sign our petition today at www.mklabour.org.uk/save_our_NHS.

Labour are leading the fight to make sure that the local STP does not lead to cuts to services in Milton Keynes, or to a huge increase in demand from our neighbouring towns.

We want an NHS fit for the future, and to ensure that there is proper funding to increase access to your GP when you need them. We are also looking for investment in Social Care and Mental Health services here in the City, so we can reduce the demands on our hospital.

Milton Keynes University Hospital – MKUH

We are asking the NHS to ensure that the following demands are met when they bring forward their STP changes.

• No closure or downgrade of A&E or Maternity services in Milton Keynes
• No reduction to nursing staff at MK Hospital
• Proper funding for the NHS to meet the needs of our growing population
• Better access to GP services in MK
• More investment and funding for Social Care & Mental Health

We need to ensure that our NHS in Milton Keynes gets all the funding it needs, and that the STP isn’t simply a smokescreen for cuts to our underfunded NHS.

If you want to join our fight, please sign our community petition. You will find it on our website, at www.mklabour.org.uk/save_our_NHS.”
