After a long fight by the local community a new zebra crossing has opened in Aylesbury Street, Fenny Stratford helping improve safety on the busy road.

Fenny Stratford Councillor Mohammed Khan had pushed Milton Keynes Council to find the £40,000 to pay for the new crossing. He held several meetings with Cabinet members to get the funding released. A decision to do so was made in December 2016 by the Cabinet against a backdrop of financial constraint.  It was a tough job to get the money released.

Cllr Khan said, “I am really pleased with the new crossing. It is what the community wanted and asked me to deliver on.  I am pleased I was able to secure the money. I believe it will make crossing this busy road a lot safer.

Cllr Khan concluded, “It took several weeks to put the new crossing in place. I looked at progress daily. The amount of work to put in a crossing is really very great. Traffic has to be managed and the pavement area also needed improving.  I am delighted for the local community that my pressure on Milton Keynes Council paid off. Times are very hard, but this is a good road safety measure and will be good Value for Money!”
