Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Milton Keynes North, Charlynne Pullen, says it is time to stop the evictions after Shelter, the national homelessness charity, said Milton Keynes (1) is the 36th worst place in the Country for private renters being at risk of eviction. One in every 44 privately let homes is at risk of eviction.

The evidence of eviction.

Evictions of private renters in Milton Keynes is very high. The eviction figures according to the Council, for the last two years are:

• 2015/16:  378 households.

• 2016/17:  363 households.

Charlynne Pullen, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Milton Keynes North said, “Shelter have highlighted the insecurity faced by private renters. Milton Keynes Council have had to provide temporary accommodation for 741 households over last two years. There could be hundreds more who have lost their homes. This is a tragic position for hundreds of people forced to rely on profit-driven private landlords.

Labours Tenants’ Rights Charter.

Charlynne Pullen has backed the Labour Party commitment to introduce a Tenants’ Rights Charter that will:

• Introduce secure tenancies

• Outlaw Letting agencies administration charges

• Prevent unreasonable rent rises

• Strengthen tenants’ rights against unfair evictions

• Ensure properties meet national standards to end poor or unsafe conditions

Charlynne Pullen concluded, “I believe we desperately need to improve the performance of private landlords. They are making too many households homeless. As your MP, I would fight to make the Tenants’ Charter a reality, so private tenants have better, fairer housing.
