A planning application has been submitted to Buckinghamshire council for a Gas Tanker offloading facility on the edge of Bletchley.
The proposed site will have 20 specialised lorries in and out each day along with other vehicles and the facility will also cause flares from the gas.
Polluting lorries filled with gas will have to get to the site through residential areas through Bletchley or Newton Longville. It’s not clear if these lorries will be able to turn safely at the Buckingham Road mini roundabouts or the crossroads in Newton Longville.
Tory Buckinghamshire Council have failed to consult with neighbouring Milton Keynes Council and West Bletchley Council despite this potentially unsafe, polluting, traffic causing facility on the edge of Bletchley.
The applicant and Buckinghamshire Council have not listed a report from the Health and Safety executive about the impact of such a potentially dangerous facility or operations. This report is vital for the community to consider the implications of the site.
Councillor Elaine Wales said: “This site will bring 40 large lorries through the streets of Bletchley including the busy Buckingham Road. The lorries will have difficulty turning at the Junction with Newton Road.”
Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Councillor Ed Hume added: “I am extremely worried about the Gas offloading facility so close to Bletchley. The operations of such a facility does not support the ambitions of MK Council, West Bletchley Council and Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Council for the area to be carbon neutral. The lorries to and from the site will be pumping particulates, CO2 into the local area affecting the quality of the air we breathe.”
Councillor Elaine Wales concluded: “The site is close to Chepstow Park where children enjoy the green spaces in Bletchley, I am concerned about the impact this site will have on the air quality that our children will be breathing in.”
