A Milton Keynes charity tackling homelessness has received a financial boost from a local ward councillor.

Councillor Zoe Nolan, who represents Loughton and Shenley, has donated a proportion of her ward grant to Unity MK, previously known as Winter Night Shelter Milton Keynes.

Cllr Nolan has donated £910 to the local charity, which helps people across the city who are at a point of crisis.

The charity offers a range of services which include Unity Park Station Welfare Centre, a place where those in need can receive advice and practical support in collaboration with external agencies and Winter Night Shelters.

Winter Night Shelters are home to emergency beds for those experiencing homelessness during the coldest months. The service is available 7 days a week and relies on churches, community centres and a team of volunteers.

Earlier this year, Cllr Zoe Nolan, alongside Loughton and Shenley Ward Cllr Shanika Mahendran, visited Unity MK Winter Night Shelter at Loughton Baptist Church.

Councillor Zoe Nolan said:

“Listening to the passionate volunteers, we learned about the fantastic work they do to support people who need it. We are grateful to all involved who make it possible for the night shelter to be available to those in need.”
