The Grebe pub was built in the 1980s and its name reflected the location near to the Lodge Lake with its large amount of wildlife, especially the Grebes, water birds who breed there.  

The Mayor of Milton Keynes re-opened an improved pub last December 2014 and it was given the new name of ‘The Kensington’. The name comes from the  upmarket area of West London now dominated by Russian billionaires. 

Six months on the manager at the pub, Lindsey Butler, is asking local residents “If there is anything you could change about the pub what would it be?”

Following lobbying by local residents local councillor Zoe Nolan is calling for the pub name to change back to the ‘The Grebe.’

Cllr Zoe Nolan said, “This might sound like small beer to some people but we support the residents view that ‘The Kensington’ sounds like a London pub. We know it’s on Kensington Drive but we all still call the pub ‘The Grebe’.

Cllr Zoe Nolan concluded “The pub was originally called after the beautiful grebes on Lodge lake. They are still delighting visitors with their diving antics and their majestic looks. We want the pub to do well but we want ‘The Grebe’ back.”
